Frequently asked questions
I currently specialise in the WJEC, OCR A, AQA and Edexcel exam boards for A level chemistry. I do also have recent experience teaching to the OCR B specification, and frequently assist with undergraduate chemistry modules on related degree courses, but I am not planning on expanding into Scottish qualifications. Please get in touch if you have another exam board or qualification which you would like me to help with.

At the moment I am still only taking new bookings for online lessons, as I find that it works very well for one-to-one lessons in this age group.
Lessons are reserved for a student for a recurring time and day for a minimum of 1 hour every week until their final exam. The reservation can be cancelled at any time with a minimum of one week's notice. Individual lessons can also be cancelled or rearranged, again with a minimum of one week's notice. Lessons cancelled less than 1 week in advance will be charged at the usual rate. If lessons are cancelled or rearranged frequently I may refuse to take any further bookings and give the time slot to a student on my waiting list.
Depending on my schedule I do occasionally take bookings for one-off lessons or a short series of lessons. This could be for catch-up or get ahead summer sessions for A level students or for university students struggling with the chemistry component of their course. Get in touch now to discuss your requirements.
Yes, I am fully DBS checked and on the automatic update register. Please follow this link to my Tutorful profile for evidence that this has been independently verified.
No, I charge the same flat rate for my time. There is only a one-week cancellation policy, however, so if you don't feel that I am a good fit then you can stop lessons at any time.
Payment
Payment is by Auto-Pay from the card details you register with your account and is collected one week in advance through Stripe. Billing is weekly by default but please contact me if you would prefer monthly/termly invoicing. If payment has not cleared before the lesson start time the lesson cannot go ahead and further lessons cannot be confirmed. In cases of repeated payment reminders being required the student's reserved lesson slot may be forfeit and further lessons may be refused. I guarantee that the hourly rate given when you sign up for tuition will not be increased for the full duration of tuition for the student, even if my rate goes up for new students during the same period. This guarantee only applies to individual students and does not extend to siblings.
Cancellations
Lessons are reserved for a student for a recurring time and day every week until their final exam, although the reservation can be cancelled at any time with a minimum of one week's notice. Individual lessons can also be cancelled or rearranged, again with a minimum of one week's notice, although if a student is repeatedly cancelling or missing lessons their reserved space may be forfeit. Lessons cancelled or rearranged less than one week before, or lessons which are not attended, will be charged at the usual rate. That includes cancellations or rearrangements for any reason, including illness. However clients are entitled to one free rearrangement each term, if at least 72 hours' notice is given, and if a mutually convenient replacement time can be found for that same week. I usually teach through the school holidays on the same schedule, excepting Christmas day, but if a student needs to make any changes because of their altered schedule in the holidays then I am happy to accommodate this, if it is agreed in line with my usual notice period. If there is no prior agreement to the contrary then all recurring lessons, including bank holidays, are assumed to be going ahead. Should I have to cancel a lesson for any reason it will not be charged for.
Expectations
Students are expected to be working from a safe and suitable place without excessive distractions. An adult guardian should be on the same premises for the duration of the lesson. Guardians can discreetly listen in at any time but should not join the lesson as this can discourage students from making mistakes and inhibit their learning. Students should be fully dressed but comfortable lounge clothes are acceptable. Dressing gowns can be worn but only as an extra layer over clothing.
Clients can expect that I will provide tuition which is tailored to the student’s needs and of high quality. Clients cannot expect a guarantee that this will result in specific grades being obtained as grades are also dependent on many external factors. Students are expected to show willingness to engage with tuition.
I will provide feedback directly to students, and mark any work, during lessons as part of their learning process. I will only occasionally contact guardians for feedback, for example if I have specific concerns. Should clients want to have direct feedback outside of lessons a phone call or videocall can be booked at my usual rate.
Recordings
Students have permission to record, or take screenshots of, any online lessons to their own device for the purpose of aiding their studies. Any recordings cannot be shared with or shown to any other person (except a responsible adult if the student has any concerns with the quality or content of the lesson) or uploaded online. Student’s recordings must also not be digitally altered or tampered with and should only be kept for a maximum period of 3 years. I also reserve the right to record lessons for safeguarding or record-keeping purposes but will inform the student verbally before doing so.
